Pavement response monitoring (PRM) plays a central role in infrastructure management, as it evaluates structural performance, identifies maintenance needs, and supports cost-effective roadway durability. Pavement surface deflection is a critical performance indicator, but traditional methods such as the Benkelman Beam, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), and Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) are limited by high costs, point-specific measurements, and traffic disruptions. To overcome these challenges, this study investigates the use of embedded geophones and accelerometers as low-cost, easy-to-install sensors for real-time, continuous pavement deflection monitoring, implemented for the first time in Sweden.
