Abstract [en]

Construction transport has not been given much attention due to:

  • Transport costs remain un-noticed and hidden in the material price
  • Transport delivery is not seen as a distinct activity e.g. building of a wall
  • Transport deliveries to, from and at the construction site are in-efficient and complex
  • Due to increase in prices and competitiveness, demand for efficient and sustainable construction transport is currently on the rise
  • Managing logistics well is key to making construction transport better and more valuable for all involved actors such as main contractor, transporter, supplier etc.
  • Actor´s perceive value creation differently such as for main contractor value lies in increased productivity whereas for transporter value is making more deliveries with minimum number of transport

Purpose

To develop the understanding of how logistics management can create a long-term value within construction transport

Research Questions

RQ1: What improvements within construction transport add long term value for the involved actors by analysing the current transport flows?

RQ2: How do the perspectives on value creation within construction transport differ among the involved actors (i.e. transporter, main contractor, andmaterial supplier)?
