Effects of Naproxen and Indomethacin on simulated car driving performanceand on reaction time performance (English)
Abstract [en]

Thirty-one healthy volunteers with valid driving licenses (30 men, 1 woman), aged 20-32, participated as paid subjects and were tested on a simulated driving task and on a visual simple reaction time (RT) task. The study design was double blind, randomized, cross-over (latin square). Testing was initiated 2 hours after ingestion of either of Naproxen 500 mg, Indomethacin 100 mg, or placebo. A fourth condition was alcohol, 7 ml pure alcohol/kg body weight, combined with placebo (blind administration) where alcohol (whisky 40%) was taken 1 hour before testing. Average BAC during thedriving task was .037%. The driving task which took place in a very sophisticated driving simulator was to negotiate a distance of 30 km as fast as possible. When crashing the S had to wait for 20 seconds before driving could be resumed. The road which was narrow and bent both horizontally and vertically, had varied friction properties. The RT test lasted for 10 min and was presented immediately after the driving task. ISI interval was 3.75 1' 1.25 5.
