Abstract [en]
The incessant tendency to improve the passive and active safety in road traffic dictates the development of novel advanced safety systems in motor vehicles. Traffic safety is one of the key factors that needs to be studies with special care in the selection of communication technologies. This paper analyzes the functioning of some in-car safety systems and discusses the future development trends. In the first part, the authors analyze the development trends of in-car safety systems and their impact on active and passive safety in road traffic. In the second part they present recent developments in communication technology implemented in road traffic systems. In addition to the existing communication technologies, they focus on the most advanced intelligent transportation systems (ITS) technologies, especially automatic tolling. The safety aspect of automatic tolling is analyzed with respect to the specific technological solutions of individual automatic tolling technologies.
